Unalakleet River

The Unalakleet River that is one of the prominent rivers in Alaska. The Unalakleet River flows through the Bering Strait. If you are wondering how this river got this name, it is simply because it flows adjacent the town of the same name.

The river is very clean and this makes it quite healthy as well. The source of the Unalakleet River though is from the high Kaltag Mountains and this flows right into Norton Sound. Norton Sound is one of the inlets of the Bering Sea.

Thanks to the beautiful and proximal location of this river to the sea, the entire place bubbles with tourist effervesce all through and especially during the summer season. The Unalakleet River is good for fishing as well and it is one of the main fishing grounds in Alaska.
While salmon is the main fish caught in Unalakleet River, there are various other species of fish that are available here as well. The area surrounding The Unalakleet River is covered with the Tundra. There are a lot of other animals and birds that are specific to the areas in and around the Unalakleet River and this include the wild deer called the caribou and the ptarmigan, which is more of less a large pigeon. The ptarmigan is one of the birds in the grouse species. The Norton Sound that the Unalakleet River flows into is also considered as one of the primary trading centers of the region.
